Eddy von Maltitz's name is synonymous with Talk Radio as his voice has been heard across the length and breadth of country on every possible radio station and talk show. Eddy refers to himself as a "Soldier of the Lord"
he is passionate about South Africa and does not want to see it become the next African Basket Case.

Some see him as a radical right wing racist, while others would like to see him as the next South African President. Love him or hate him, you cannot ignore him and even though The Richmark Sentinel may not agree with or support his views, we will defend his right under the Constitution to express them insofar as they do not resort to Hate Speech.

Eddy's first article clearly defines the man and his stance.

Akhil Bakshi AKHIL BAKSHI

On completing his management studies from Germany and USA, Akhil Bakshi worked for four years in an agrochemical company. During this period, he travelled extensively throughout rural India, working and living in villages.

For ten years, between 1982-1991, he assisted late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in initiating, implementing and monitoring development programs in his constituency, Amethi. As Director General of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, he developed the institution into a youth movement and the largest grassroots organisation in the world.

Later, as an Officer on Special Duty to the Prime Minister of India, Mr. PV Narasimha Rao, he helped initiate several national programs for social and rural development.

Due to his keen interest in public service, Akhil Bakshi has set up two non-government organizations. Yuva Shakti, a national organisation of rural youth leaders, seeks to provide good leadership at the village-level. Society for Creation of Heaven on Earth assists small and marginal farmers and landless labourers in increasing their productivity and incomes.

Akhil Bakshi has successfully merged his interest in public service and adventure. In 1994, he led the Central Asia Expedition - a goodwill mission to Central Asia and Tibet.
In 1995-1996, he led the Azad Hind Expedition to refresh the national memory with the sacrifices made by the soldiers of the Indian National Army in their fight for India's liberation. In 1999, he led the expedition Hands Across The Borders, a mass contact program for promoting peace and development in South Asia. In 2006, he led the 25,200-km Gondwanaland Expedition, a scientific and friendship mission to 17 countries of West Asia and Africa.

A Fellow of Royal Geographical Society, Vice President of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, Akhil Bakshi is on the Board of several adventure organizations in India and has travelled extensively through 82 countries.

He has written three travelogues -
The Road to Freedom - Travels Through Singapore, Malaysia, Burma and India
Silk Road On Wheels - Travels Through Central Asia, Chinese Turkestan and Tibet; and
Between Heaven and Hell - Travels Through South Asia.

His fourth book, Askar Akaev - A Political Journey is a biography of the President of Kyrgyzstan.

Three more travelogues - Back to Gondwanaland, Escape from Heaven and I'll Follow the Sun are currently under print.

Besides writing several travel articles for leading newspapers and magazines, he has produced over seventy television documentaries.

Amanda van den Barg AMANDA VAN DEN BARG

I'm a student studying journalism at Rhodes University, Eastern Cape. I specialised in graphic design, though as my degree comes to an end, I have discovered my true love lies in exploring... and writing about it afterwards.

I lived in Scotland (alone) for a year after school and traveled all over Europe, I came back to South Africa with a greater love for this country and a 300 pound debt. Hungry for adventure, I have explored the Eastern Cape in some rather weird and wacky ways - zip lines, microlights, canoes and soon, a parachute have become my means of travel.

When I'm not exploring I write and do layout for Grahamstown's best kept secret, the Makana Moon. With just a month left in this sleepy student town, I'm getting ready to take the world by storm, going places and doing things few people have the gonads to consider.

Andre Snyman ANDRE SNYMAN

Born, but luckily not bred, in a small conservative town in the old Transvaal, I learnt to live on the other side of the fence.

I am a direct descendant of Andries Pretorius, the Boer Royal Family, with a problem - I could not speak Afrikaans. As fate had it , my mother had been adopted by the Ermelo Convent where she literally lived from the age of six till the age of sixteen.

That is how this Dutchman unwittingly became verengelsed (Englished). What the Afrikaners would call a turn coat and a traitor. At Pretoria Boy’s High School, I was called Dries because the boys reckoned that no English blokes were born in Ermelo. My friends in Ermelo called me Sout Piel. My mother in her wisdom sent us kids to English boarding schools out of town to detox . My career limiting statement was when the Mayor of Ermelo, who actually worked for our family, (my family was a big fish in a very small pond) as a tractor salesman, called me into his office and told me to tell a bunch of hot blooded locals, who had just signed up with the newly formed Conservative Party what I thought of the party. Because of the limited space in his office I was asked to stand on his desk so everyone could see me. I proceeded to tell them that I thought they were “onchristelik’, non Christians, because they hated the blacks, Indians and the English but the bible says they should love every one.

I regard this single event as the back bone of my philosophy today. I learnt that there is good and bad on every side. I was not really accepted and could never belong to the Rapport Ryers or Broeder Bond to give me the leg up in business that my so called friends got.

Does this make me previously disadvantaged? No, but it did make me have a different point of view.

Bernie Madoff BERNIE MADOFF

Qualifications: A degree in political science. Followed by law studies which were not completed.

Bernard Lawrence Madoff is a "writer" with multi-personality disorder (MPD).

Madoff-personality disorder (MPD) is a condition in which a single person displays multiple distinct identities or personalities (known as alter egos), each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. The diagnosis requires that at least two personalities routinely take control of the individual's behavior with an associated memory loss that goes beyond normal forgetfulness.

Found guilty, on Richmark Sentinel's "Open Forum",of the biggest Pozni scheme in the history of the on-line publication. Numerous aliases were used and many fraudulent comments were posted. At his "trial", the judge stated that he had not received any mitigating letters from friends or family testifying to any good deeds. "The absence of such support is telling," he said.

You should, of course, be extremely cautious about investing your precious time with the column.

Siyabonga Ntshingila is a walking example of how not to go through life productively.

Having been chanced his lackadaisical way through an education at one of the country's finest boys schools and a noted university, he then proceeded to unleash his special brand of inertia on the unsuspecting corporate world.

Alas, as with the Bernard Madoff's of this world, the scam could not go on forever, and like a de-Vaselined Ananias Mathe, reality caught up with him and he is now (thanks to the undue influence of his beloved) making a living as a freelance writer and a sub-editor of the Richmark Sentinel.

Bonginkosi BONGINKOSI

I am an engineer by profession. I was employed in heavy industry and mining for many years. I now work for an IT company. My years at university were spent drinking lots of red wine, indulging in my love for JAZZ through being a jazz DJ on the campus radio station and doing all the 'irrelevant and useless' courses to enrich my education. It was also a very good way to meet all the endless interesting young ladies who were missing in most of my engineering courses!

I have an interest in politics, business, jazz, red wine, cricket amongst other things.

I am very opinionated. I accept that some of my opinions will be strange. However, I am old enough not to care. So I hope you enjoy my ramblings about nothing and everything.

Dave Mortlock DAVE MORTLOCK

After graduating from Bradford University in 1998 David has worked as a stockbroker his whole career. But whereas stockmarkets are his job, sport is his passion. David played cricket to a semi-professional standard and is also a committed golfer playing to a handicap of 5 (and rising). While he enjoys playing sport, David's real talent is watching it...lots of it. And although not particularly fussy, he does prefer those sports that make use of a ball. Through a combination of observational and statistical insight he seeks to challenge the lazy consensual view. Married with two young daughters, David lives and works in London, UK.

His favourite sports quotes...
"Sport doesn't build character, it reveals it"
John Wooden

"You like giant-killers, I prefer giants"
Hugh McIlvanney

"I'm not Adonis, I'm The Donis"

David Bullard DAVID BULLARD

David Bullard is of the firm opinion that the columnist's job is to shout "fire" in a crowded cinema and then retire to a safe distance to see what happens. This view was not shared by The Sunday Times who sacked him for writing an allegedly "racist" article. Since the article in question wasn't much different in tone from what had been published in the paper for the previous 14 years he couldn't really see what all the fuss was about. He has published three books of his columns and, to the chagrin of people like Max du Preez, Fred Khumalo and Xolela Mangcu, is still South Africa's most talked about columnist. Dikeledi Killarney DIKELEDI KILLARNEY

Born 26 years ago, Dikeledi Killarney studied Public Relations management and graduated in 2002 at the University of Witwatersrand. A year later studied Sports management through Boston City campus and graduated in 2004.
Dikeledi joined SAIL's football department as a Marketing manager in 2002. In 2008 she joined Fleishman as a media manager for various football accounts.
While with SAIL, she was selected as a venue media officer by the FIFA LOC for Confederations and World Cup - making it the highlight of her career.
Dikeledi also presented a football magazine show. The show profiled footballers and their on and off the field activities.
She currently runs her own publicity management company serving the brands of local players and enjoys contributing to the game in various football publications and PSL magazine show.

Why I should write on PSL soccer?

Having worked for a football club for 7 years has given me interest in football and has increased my understanding for the game.
I attend at least one PSL game every day when there is a fixture, and therefore believe that I remain current with the events and news in football.
I am also opinionated; therefore it helps in the way in which I can report on a game. I am able to give a fair comment and/or opinion on football issues.
My current role in football also exposes me more to game situations, the burning issues, etc which the public finds interesting to read.
I would really appreciate an opportunity to express myself in a sport that I love.

Don Albert DON ALBERT

Don Albert was born in Cape Town.

He started playing drums in the Young South African League Band. During WWII, while still at school he was seconded to the Duke of Ed... Own Rifles Band apparently their drummer was sent up north and someone recommended Don to the bandmaster Captain Rendell VC. He played with them to the end of the war. During that time he became interested in jazz, a passion that still burns today, and eventually gave up drums for the saxophone. In 1946 age 16 he won First Prize playing a classical saxophone solo at the South African Eisteddfod. He played around Cape Town mostly with his own band.

In 1952 he moved to Durban playing in the bands of Buster Whitley, Jimmy Lonie, Colin Campbell and Billy Farrell before forming his own band. In the early 60s he took a band to Bulawayo in the then Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe. He was immediately offered a weekly TV and a radio programme for the band.

On returning to Durban he played in the pit for The King and I which toured South Africa after which he was asked to bring a band up to Johannesburg to play at the Diamond Horseshoe Night Club. He played around Joburg and then became a furniture rep for a Rhodesian manufacturer.

Eventually he returned to the arts but didn't have a sax so he started freelancing as a jazz journalist and then joined The Star Tonight permanently and was soon playing again as well.

In those days if you did anything for black people, you we're labeled a communist, and communism was banned. It is believed he was very close to being arrested. He single handed fought the battle, and had the law rescinded in 1985.

David Klatzow's name is synonymous with Forensic Science, every time there are mysterious circumstances surrounding a death, and accident or a murder you hear Talkshow hosts speaking with Dr David Klatzow, to get his expert opinion on the circumstances and the forensic evidence that may be available.

Dr Klatzow is a scientist - there is no better word to describe him - he has dedicated his life to research into a variety of scientific areas, including his thesis titled A Study of Plasma & Serum Proteins in Malignancy.

Before branching out into the world of Forensic Science, Dr Klatzow was a lecturer in Biochemistry at the University of Durban Westville and Medical Biochemistry at Wits University.

David's name became a household name in South Africa after the fatal crash of the SAA Helderberg near Mauritius. His investigations into that crash have never been closed and raise more questions than answers but, as Fox Mulder used to say, "The truth is out there somewhere"

To quote another famous TV character CSI's Gil Grissom, who always says "You can't beat the forensic evidence" something I am quite sure Dr David Klatzow lives by

Lyndall Beddy LYNDALL BEDDY

I am a South African, decended on my mother's side from a Dutch sieketrooste who came to the Cape 70 years after Van Riebeeck, who supervised the building of the first church in Paarl; and on my father's side from the American Missionary, Daniel Lindley, who was missionary to both the Zulus and the Voortrekkers.

In the tradition of my ancestors I wish to facilitate dialogue among people.

I am a amateur psychologist, amateur historian, amateur analyst, anti-racist activist, and former professional liquidator.

It is my professional opinion that South Africa can be saved from heading towards bankruptcy, with some crisis management and lateral thinking from all of you, and that "we can get by with a little help from our friends".

Mandrake MANDRAKE

Mandrake is a misunderstood delusional brother currently based in Port Elizabeth. He finds I his roots amongst the Xhosa people, ochre blood runs in his veins. He can barely remember growing up in Grahamstown, and much of his childhood is blocked away in shame and embarrassment...I was weak, OK!

The onset of high-school and tertiary introduced him to the bitter and women-folk and he has been a changed man ever-since. Discovering the ability to laugh at himself has been the best gift God has bestowed and my bedrock is my family.

I discovered that I am very good at expressing myself in the written word and I've been contributing regularly on Thoughtleader. I also had a blog on amagama.com, but alas the spammers and sploggers( I think it's a word) brought my demise. My opinions are mine alone and I don't apologize for them; however I engage in debate and sometimes admit when I'm wrong.

I have a tendency to annoy others intentionally by using 3rd person.

Mark Bonsall has a degree in Modern Languages from Bradford University and has been working in the Industrial Gases business since graduating in 1996. Having lived and worked in Paris for 9 years he has now returned to his natal UK where he is living in Hull, in East Yorkshire.
Mark is a passionate sports fan, he has played many sports to a high standard, including Rugby Union at semi professional level, Cricket at Regional level, Football, Snooker and Golf (to a reasonable standard). He enjoys watching most sports and his sporting highlight would have to be following England's progress in the 2007 Rugby World Cup, particularly the defeats of Australia in Marseilles and France in Paris, and somewhat grudgingly the defeat by the Boks in the Final.
Mark is 36 years old and single. A supporter of Derby County, currently of the English Championship, he loves nothing more than the atmosphere before, during and after a live sporting event, but is happy enough taking second best and watching on TV.

Nigel Owen NIGEL OWEN

Nigel Owen has spent his whole career in the banking world, after graduating from Keble College, Oxford in 1998, MA (Hons) in Economics and Managament. He currently works for The Royal Bank of Canada, having switched Royal Banks in 2007 from the Scottish one - luck or judgement, make your own mind up!

He was born into a sporting family, with a father who played both local league football and cricket in Derbyshire and Northamptonshire, and a PE teacher mother who later qualified as an umpire and has umpired England Ladies international matches and English County 2nd XI matches. Going to watch his father from an early age he soon caught the sporting bug, and as well as following his father's lead, playing local football and cricket, there are few sports he doesn't enjoy playing and/or watching - golf, snooker, tennis, horse racing, even managing to find the only curling rink in England - and has an opinion about them all, not worried about questioning the popular view.

Nikola Tesla NIKOLA TESLA

Nikola Tesla was one of the greatest brains the world has ever known, he took Edison's light bulb and created electric power, through his genius, we have electromagnetic energy fields and if he had been allowed to pursue his goals space travel may have come long before the first Sputnik.

In December 1901, Marconi established wireless communication between Britain and the Newfoundland, Canada, earning him the Nobel prize in 1909. But much of Marconi's work was not original. In 1864, James Maxwell theorized electromagnetic waves. In 1887, Heinrich Hertz proved Maxwell's theories. Later, Sir Oliver Logde extended the Hertz prototype system. The Brandley coherer increased the distance messages could be transmitted. The coherer was perfected by Marconi.

However, the heart of radio transmission is based upon four tuned circuits for transmitting and receiving. It is Tesla's original concept demonstrated in his famous lecture at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia in 1893. The four circuits, used in two pairs, are still a fundamental part of all radio and television equipment.

The United States Supreme Court, in 1943 held Marconi's most important patent invalid, recognizing Tesla's more significant contribution as the inventor of radio technology.

Tesla built an experimental station in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1899, to experiment with high voltage, high frequency electricity and other phenomena.

When the Colorado Springs Tesla Coil magnifying transmitter was energized, it created sparks 30 feet long. From the outside antenna, these sparks could be seen from a distance of ten miles. From this laboratory, Tesla generated and sent out wireless waves which mediated energy, without wires for miles.

In Colorado Springs, where he stayed from May 1899 until 1900, Tesla made what he regarded as his most important discovery-- terrestrial stationary waves. By this discovery he proved that the Earth could be used as a conductor and would be as responsive as a tuning fork to electrical vibrations of a certain frequency. He also lighted 200 lamps without wires from a distance of 25 miles( 40 kilometers) and created man-made lightning. At one time he was certain he had received signals from another planet in his Colorado laboratory, a claim that was met with disbelief in some scientific journals.
Tesla's concept of wireless electricity was used to power ocean liners, destroy warships, run industry and transportation and send communications instantaneously all over the globe. To stimulate the public's imagination, Tesla suggested that this wireless power could even be used for interplanetary communication. If Tesla were confident to reach Mars, how much less difficult to reach Paris. Many newspapers and periodicals interviewed Tesla and described his new system for supplying wireless power to run all of the earth's industry.

If only man had listened to me

Nutty Lady NUTTY LADY

Studied Comparative Politics at Essex University in the late 60s and didn't complete degree due to class argument with parents over boy friend and husband, which I lost. Ran a research library in the City of London and then followed parents to SA when mother was very ill. This was to be first step in going around the world, which failed completely after mother's death and my pregnancy. Stayed low for awhile, merely singing in the chorus with PACT and then teaching kids to ride horses.

Woke up some years later (whilst working in the IT industry) and started working to keep our water clean. Grew more rabid and joined EarthLife Africa in 1989. Became really active in 2005 as branch secretary and treasurer. Interest in clean water has now escalated into mining problems, acid mine drainage, how we regulate the regulations that polluter pays, make mining regulations work, why the new mining projects are self defeating and why nuclear power will not save South Africa.

On the side, we host beautiful ladies for SA Guide Dogs so that they can deliver more puppies for guiding visually impaired people and assisting others who are deaf or disabled as Service Dogs. Confuse criminals by working with my local policing forum; sing; read; talk to anyone who will listen and have even more fun debating with them; love training people to use software and know that I am totally nuts because I am so crazily alive!

Still want to save the world - preferably in the next year, as I really think people are just not thinking this thing out fast enough.

Photo is a bit more than head and shoulders! Check out the EarthLife Johannesburg Group on Facebook for more stuff.

Pat Rogers PAT ROGERS

Pat Rogers started in television news when it began in Africa - with Rhodesia Television in 1960 - and shortly afterwards helped open Northern Rhodesia Television, as news editor. He left after it was nationalisd by Kenneth Kaunda and later worked in Australian television for the ABC and Channel 9, returning to join the SABC at the start of television here in 1976.

Employed as a producer, he also worked as a presenter, initially in sport and then in current affairs, winning a number of awards. He was President of the SABC Staff Association at a time of clashes with government and management over censorship, culminating in his resignation.

The following years saw spells with Radio 702 (before talk radio), and in PR roles with Putco and the Chamber of Mines, while he continued as a freelance presenter on TV until the early nineties. He also scored an upset win for the DA in the late 'eighties, giving it, for a brief period, an historic majority in the Johannesburg City Council.

He was an early and persistent advocate of live courtroom and parliamentary TV coverage, was unsuccessfully nominated as a member of the inaugural Independent Broadcasting Authority, and was awarded the first independent radio broadcasting licence, which became Radio Today under other management.

He also took to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission a case of censorship by the SABC regarding reported criminal charges against Jacob Zuma. The usual media watchers were significantly absent. The BCC found that it was not empowered to act against censorship. Neither is anybody else, and that remains the position. The DA remains silent and the BCC continues to deal with complaints about bad language, sex and religion.

Peter Moss PETER MOSS

I do this with some trepidation as I know the usual reception given to anyone who promotes the right to firearm ownership, in particular from the media. That is why I start by showing gun control is built on feet of clay and has no validity or legitimacy. All gun control asks is for people to accept the lie of some vague unproven and unmentioned validity and now debate on how much is needed. I can't do that.

As I am sure you can appreciate at this present time I am also very tied up with current happenings and the Black Gun Owners Association of South Africa.

As a supporter of the right to firearm ownership I have taken an active part since 1999 first joining the SA Gunners online discussion list and later joining Alex Holmes (SAGA and NFF) when he started the South African Firearm Forum as its moderator for four years. I am a founder of GOSA, Gun Owners of South Africa and have continued my interest in this right by writing many letters and media releases to the newspapers and making submissions on all aspects that influence this right. I am currently the research officer for Black Gun Owners Association of SA.

Stevland Marney STEVLAND MARNEY

The opinion piece writer of this blog was born and raised on the streets of Mitchells Plain, commonly known as the Cape Flats. Last born to a family of four kids, he led a sheltered life as a youngster.

Desperate to break free of these shackles he wrote furiously [the latter being more a state of mind than an action] to express himself. In his late teens he discovered beer and the female form, suffice it to say, writing just wasn't cutting it anymore. The latter would then shape his life into what it is now.

He now lives a sheltered life, drinks beer, enjoys the female form and is officially a disgruntled employee at one of the corporates. Having been married with two kids, divorced and currently engaged to be married again he has pretty much seen it all.

He has been called a number of things, benevolent, kind, caring, thoughtful, funny etc, but the one that best describes him, is shallow. So come and take a walk with him as he takes you deep into his shallowness.
